After years of struggling on the streets, a gentle tom cat finally found comfort when a kind person welcomed him inside and offered him the good life he had always deserved.

A thick-coated stray cat appeared alone in a neighborhood last winter. A neighbor recognized him from the summer months when he had been spotted desperately searching for food. This fluffy tom, later named Ewok, was nervous at first but had a gentle heart. When a kind finder offered him food and shelter, he gratefully accepted, relieved to finally have a safe space and a full bowl of food. His fur was heavily tangled and matted, and a crusty patch on his back was causing him discomfort.
When Chatons Orphelins Montreal, a local animal rescue, was contacted, they immediately stepped in to help. Ewok was quickly brought under their care with open arms.

The rescue shared, “Once we took Ewok, the little teddy bear, into our care, he was off to the veterinary clinic.” The staff carefully trimmed away the knots and tangles, gently comforting him with pets and soft words. Even though he was scared, he remained calm and cooperative throughout the process.

The vet estimated Ewok to be around three years old. His paw pads were hardened from walking in the snow, and an old rib injury suggested he had faced a harsh accident during his life outdoors, though it no longer caused him pain. Soon after, a loving foster family welcomed him into their home, and Ewok’s sweet, gentle personality began to shine.

“When he first arrived, he was anxious and withdrawn. But as soon as he felt safe and began socializing, his cuddly and gentle side emerged. All he wanted was love and affection.” However, Ewok struggled with watery eyes caused by a condition called entropion, where his eyelids curled inward, creating irritation and risk of infection.

To help him, Ewok underwent eyelid surgery. Even with a cone around his head for two weeks, he stayed sweet and calm, enjoying spoon-fed meals and all the pampering he received. “After enduring such a hard life on the streets, he was more than deserving of the best care,” said the rescue.

Ewok proved himself to be a calm soul who loves routine. Though he may seem shy at first, a few gentle scratches are enough to win his heart. He especially loves chin and lower back rubs, purring loudly and stretching his paws in delight. He enjoys basking in the sunlight from his hammock but never misses a chance to greet his foster mom with cuddles.

His playful side also shines in the evenings when the house is quiet. Ewok digs out his toys and chases them happily. Though still skittish around sudden movements, once he feels safe, he transforms into a loving cuddle bug, showering his people with affection. He rarely meows, but his strong, rumbling purrs fill the room.

Ewok gets along wonderfully with other cats in the house, respecting their space but clearly preferring the company of humans. Whenever he is petted, his fluffy paws knead biscuits, and his purrs echo with happiness. After surviving the streets for nearly his entire life, Ewok is now safe, comfortable, and living a pain-free life with a devoted foster family—and he has never looked back.
