Three months ago, Leanne, a dedicated volunteer with Whiskers-a-GoGo, received an urgent message about a litter of kittens born in a dangerous and cramped spot. These tiny kittens had been delivered in the narrow space between a chain-link fence and a wooden fence, leaving them in constant danger. With the homeowner’s permission, Leanne carefully cut away part of the wooden fence so she could reach the kittens and lift them out safely. Among the four kittens, one was noticeably smaller, and Leanne immediately realized that this little runt would need special care and attention.

Knowing how important it was for newborn kittens to stay with their mother, Leanne set a humane trap to bring the mother cat into safety as well. Luckily, she was able to rescue the mom the same day. Soon, the entire feline family was placed in foster care, safe from the harsh outdoor environment and no longer trapped between two fences. For the first time, the kittens could grow up in a warm and loving space where they had the chance to survive and thrive.

The Struggle of the Runt
Once in foster care, things took a heartbreaking turn. The mother cat rejected the tiniest calico kitten, later named Hamster, and pushed her out of the nest. In nature, mother cats often focus on the strongest kittens to give the litter the best chance of survival. But Hamster, though fragile, had an enormous will to live. At just one week old, she weighed only 85 grams—much smaller than an average newborn kitten.

When offered a bottle, Hamster latched on fiercely, proving her determination. In just two days, she gained eight grams, a small but promising start. Every feeding was followed by warm cuddles, giving her the love and comfort she needed. Soon, she began to purr, knead, and cry out loudly whenever she was hungry, showing everyone that she had the spirit of a fighter despite her small size.

Hamster’s Incredible Transformation
Over the weeks, Hamster continued to grow stronger. Though still smaller than her siblings, she quickly became more playful, curious, and bold. As the kittens were weaned, their mom retired from motherhood, and Hamster rejoined her brothers and sisters full-time. The once-delicate runt was now a bundle of energy, tackling her siblings like a little warrior and showing a love for food that often left her face messy after every meal. Leanne described her as sweet one moment and mischievous the next, always plotting her next playful ambush.

Each sibling developed their own personality too. Pipsqueak, who resembles Hamster, loves wrestling. Cupcake, the black-and-white fluffball, is the biggest and melts into cuddles. Macaroni, the white kitten with an orange cap, is gentle and polite, quietly seeking affection. Together, they made a happy and lively little family.

From Weakest to Strongest
Hamster’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. She went from being the weakest and smallest to outgrowing two of her siblings. Known for her fearless personality and boundless energy, she is now full of life, alternating between being cuddly and causing playful chaos. Her transformation shows the power of love, care, and determination, proving that even the tiniest lives can thrive with the right support.
