A tiny orphaned kitten arrived at Animal Control, desperate for rescue. She was filthy, covered in lice, and far too small for her age. Huddled in the corner of a cardboard box, she hissed at anyone who came close. Yet, behind those fearful eyes was a fragile soul craving affection and safety.
When volunteers at Saving Grace Rescue heard about her, they knew she needed help immediately.

One of the volunteers, Joyce, welcomed the kitten into her home and named her Smudge. The first step was a warm bath to clean her tiny body and remove the lice. As her fur dried and fluffed up, her hidden beauty began to shine through, giving a glimpse of the healthy kitten she could become.
At just 14.6 ounces, Smudge had a long road of growth ahead, but she was finally in a safe and loving place.

The fear in her eyes slowly faded as she realized she no longer had to struggle. Curious about the footsteps of other pets in the house, she began peeking out with wide-eyed wonder. For the first time, Smudge could relax, eat without worry, and simply enjoy being a kitten.

Smudge loved curling up under Joyce’s shirt, soaking in warmth and affection. But just as she was settling in, she faced a sudden medical emergency and was rushed to the ER. The veterinary team worked quickly, giving her the care she needed. During her recovery, a staff member at the clinic fell in love with the little fighter.

Smudge was so tiny that even the smallest cone wouldn’t fit her, so the vets crafted a makeshift cone from a paper cup. With proper care, nutrition, and constant love, she began to thrive and show her playful side.

Soon Smudge was running around the house, befriending Callista the dog and Roo the cat. Roo became like a mother figure, grooming her and keeping her company. The once-lonely kitten now had family, love, and joy surrounding her every day.

When Smudge was ready for adoption, fate had already chosen her forever family. The ER staff member who had adored her during her treatment applied to adopt her. It was love at first sight once again, and Smudge finally went home to a family that would cherish her endlessly.
