They took in a “10-day-old” shelter kitten in need of help. As it turned out, the little cat was much older.

Earlier last month, Jamie, a kind-hearted foster volunteer with Baby Kitten Rescue, received an urgent message from the West Valley Shelter in California. The shelter was overwhelmed and desperately needed someone to take in a long-haired black kitten listed as a “10-day-old male.” The tiny kitten was crying in distress, and when Jamie saw the short video clip of the helpless baby, she instantly decided to rescue it. Within hours, transport was arranged, and the kitten was brought safely to Jamie’s care.
Once the kitten arrived, Jamie quickly realized that something was off. The “10-day-old male” was actually a little female, and she wasn’t a newborn at all.

Jamie noticed that the kitten already had all her baby teeth — a clear sign she was closer to five weeks old. Sadly, she was extremely malnourished and dehydrated, likely after being orphaned for days. Despite her frail body, the little cat’s spirit remained strong. Jamie gently gave her fluids and helped her eat since she couldn’t feed herself yet. That night marked the start of an emotional rescue journey that would soon inspire thousands online.

After receiving fluids and warmth in an incubator, the kitten finally found the strength to stand on her tiny legs. She let out a confident little meow that filled the room — her way of saying she was ready to fight for life. Jamie named her “Wednesday,” after the strong and iconic character from the popular show *Wednesday*. From that moment on, the brave kitten lived up to her name in every possible way.
Jamie fed her every three hours around the clock. Normally, a healthy five-week-old kitten would eat every five to six hours, but Wednesday’s small stomach could only handle tiny amounts. Despite sleepless nights and constant care, Jamie stayed committed to helping the fragile kitten recover.

For ten long days, Wednesday was hand-fed and kept warm in her cozy nest. Gradually, she began to gain weight and show signs of energy. Each day, she grew a little stronger — toddling to the edge of her blanket to meow for attention. “Wednesday is very vocal,” Jamie said with a smile. “She talks constantly and always lets me know when she’s hungry.” The once-silent kitten had found her voice and personality.

By the end of her second week in foster care, Wednesday took her first bite of food completely on her own. It was a small victory, but one that made Jamie incredibly proud. With that milestone, Wednesday graduated from the incubator to a spacious playpen where she could explore safely. Her fluffy fur grew thicker, her eyes sparkled with curiosity, and she finally began to act like a happy, healthy kitten.

“Wednesday is exactly like her namesake — bossy, vocal, confident, and full of life,” Jamie shared. “But unlike her counterpart, she’s also very affectionate, cuddly, and incredibly social. She’s the perfect kitten and such a joy to foster.” With each passing day, Wednesday’s charm won the hearts of everyone who met her.

Wednesday loved to “talk” to her foster mom in a series of chirps, groans, and squeaks. She had so much personality for such a tiny body. One of her favorite things to do was perform her adorable “crab walk” — puffing up her fur and hopping sideways like a little panther, challenging Jamie to play. Fearless, energetic, and endlessly curious, she truly embodied the phrase “tiny but mighty.”

By the time Wednesday reached nearly eleven weeks old, she was finally ready for adoption. Her transformation from a frail, malnourished kitten to a confident, affectionate little cat was nothing short of miraculous. A local family living just a few blocks away fell in love with her and adopted her into their warm home. With three dogs, another cat, and six loving family members, Wednesday would never again know loneliness or hunger.

Now, Wednesday lives a joyful life surrounded by people and pets. Her new parents both work from home, ensuring she always has companionship. Though still small, her big personality fills every room. She’s playful, loving, and fearless — the perfect reminder that even the tiniest creatures can have the biggest hearts.
