A kind-hearted resident discovered the large-framed tomcat scrounging for food. Although he bore the scars of a rough outdoor life, he surprised her with his friendliness and eagerness for attention. After weeks of searching for his owner with no success, she reached out to Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions to secure him a safe future.

The cat, named Kodiak, received medical treatment for an infected wound before moving in with foster volunteer Ellen Richter. Ellen quickly learned that Kodiak wasn’t just a survivor—he was a cuddly, affectionate companion who longed for human closeness.

“He’s about 7-8 years old with a slight eye discoloration that doesn’t affect his vision,” Ellen shared. “He’s mellow, quiet, and acts like a giant teddy bear.” Kodiak immediately showed his loving side by curling into Ellen’s lap, purring loudly, and kneading until he drifted off to sleep.

Kodiak’s salt-and-pepper coat and battle scars tell the story of his hard life outdoors, yet he remains gentle and affectionate. He eagerly climbs into arms for hugs, demanding kisses and attention. His days are now filled with naps, cuddles, and hearty meals, making up for the struggles of his past.

Every night, after snuggling with Ellen, Kodiak tucks himself into his blanket, purring contentedly as he kneads. He enjoys toys, but most of the time, he’s happiest lounging and soaking up affection as a true couch potato. His slow blinks and belly rolls signal his trust and happiness in his foster home.

To help him find his forever family, volunteers set him up in a spacious adoption suite, where he could meet visitors and socialize with other cats. Kodiak charmed everyone with his sweet personality and eagerness to cuddle, quickly becoming a favorite among staff and volunteers.

Now, after surviving the streets, Kodiak is ready to bring his gentle teddy bear spirit to a permanent home. He thrives on being held and cradled like a baby, always returning love with purrs and affection. Until adoption, he continues to brighten the lives of everyone he meets at the center.
